Are the markets crashing?
I mean proper crashing. Pensions taken a big hit already.
Can we look forward to lots of traders swan diving off tall buildings and should I start stocking up on tinned food?

Who on earth would take financial advice from a fucking taxi driver anyway?

These mugs have been rolled over by a bunch of eastern europeans with a fucking sat nav.

Laughable.

In 64-70 Harold Wilson inherited an economy with unprecedented low unemployment and economic prosperity presided over the previous 13 years by consecutive conservatives governments. He proceeded to devalue the pound?

Also famous for sending our troops to Northern Ireland in 1969.

Heath inherited Wilson's folly. Rumoured kiddie fiddler and took us into the EU probably the worst Conservative MP in living memory, perhaps why he hated, but lets have it right.

You and I are free to hold a political view but politicians and their card carrying members are generally required to hold a party view. What makes politics interesting to me is that parties have Mavericks who stand some way outside their party's line. Oddly labour have elected a maverick to lead them.

Re: Are the markets crashing?
The mistake is to pin this on a particular party rather than a particular approach. I don't always agree with Infidel but I think he has a point when he says that it is Osborne's approach that is wrong. The party political bollocks just holds us back. It sees people attacking/defending policies purely on the basis of what colour rosette the minister who proposes them sports, rather than on the merits of the idea itself.

I hate the way we treat political parties with the loyalty we should reserve for football teams, probably because I was as enthralled by it myself once.

Re: Are the markets crashing?
Annoy, in 1973 it was a conservative Heath government in power, Labour came back in 1974.

Also the Egypt/Syria attack on Isra'el in October 73 sparked an Arab lead oil producing/selling embargo. Are you going to blame Heath for that or indeed a not yet in power Labour government?

Pitsea market is crashing

I went down there last week to buy some fruit and veg and have an honest to goodness cockney working class markit walk abaht and talk wiv me mates and alls there was was a bleeding macedonian selling pedigree chum and a little asian man hawking black market sex dvd's of cliff richards and dirty titty calendars of mariah carey featuring her wearing tight fitting underpants that show all her quim off like a giant sliced hovis loaf.

Dirty bastards what has it come to? There werent even a beat copper in sight and there was loads of people in mobility scooters due to obesity an all. The whole market smelt of unwashed trousers and wet dog. I remember the good days when you could go darn there and buy a codgel pahnd of cockles with other poorly dressed locals and people who hadnt not never washed their hair or genitals in proper shampoo for three weeks

Annony, were you alive in the 1970s?

I should hope so, I watched Bonzo lift the cup at Wembley in 75, unless it was all a dream.

73 under Harold Wilson, how could you forget blackouts, and having to live by candlelight, queuing for hours with my dad for petrol, 26% inflation, we were a fourth world country, before Maggie sorted it.

Everyone walked around with candles in the 70s.- you could barely negotiate the incense fog as you picked your way through the hippy colonies of Portobello Rd.

If I remember rightly it was Ted Heath (Tory) in power when we had to walk round with candles and walk up 18 flights of stairs because the lifts wern't working due to power cuts. 3 day week.

Just saying, and I tend towards being Tory.

There will never be another Iron Lady. Changed this country in the 80s like Upton Park turning into the Olympic Stadium.

Sadly Blair, Brown and others are doing their best to take us back to the dark ages (you know that time in the 70's before Maggie got in when you had to walk around with candles).

It's a question of character.

A real leader could sell it to the nation.

It's a coward's position to avoid doing anything that might upset the noisy Lefties.

Mrs Thatcher never let it worry her.

A Conservative Chancellor would take an axe to public spending, run a surplus and start reducing the debt mountain that threatens the survival of the UK as a first world economy.

...and almost certainly ensuring his party isn't re-elected , which is pretty much his primary objective.

Dapablo

The money isn't given out to help economy and industry.

It is given to you and the rest of the public mainly in the form of welfare, healthcare, education and pensions.

The government is reluctant to cut spending on any of these programs because it fears a public backlash. This has been the case for the entire time Osborne has been Chancellor.

Spending on the big four departments has gone up every year. There are cuts to small budgets like local government and defence but these are a drop in the ocean compared to the large sums wasted on the big ticket items.

You might ask why tax revenues haven't risen enough to cover the extra spending, given we are always being told there is strong GDP growth. The answer is that most of the extra employment is in low paid or part time work, which the government has more or less exempted from income taxes by stupidly raising the personal allowance to £10,000 in order to get some positive 'look how caring we are!' headlines.

They have managed to squeeze quite a lot more tax out of the middle classes and high earners but they are at the limit now before it becomes self defeating (bluntly, the rich will leave).

The yawning gap between what the government spends and what it collects in taxes has been funded every year by massive borrowing. As the lenders (pension funds, banks, foreign countries etc) won't keep lending to a bankrupt country the government has resorted to issuing bonds on a friday and getting the Bank of England to buy them back on a Monday with newly created money -this is QE in a nutshell.

So investors lend money to the Treasury only because they know they can sell the bonds to the BoE and get their money back. Otherwise we would be in the same boat as Greece - a major credit risk unable to guarantee to lenders that we can repay everything we borrow.

This is socialism. It doesn't matter that Osborne wears a blue rosette. You judge him by what he does in office. He is following the same lunatic socialist borrow-and-waste policy of his predecessors.

A Conservative Chancellor would take an axe to public spending, run a surplus and start reducing the debt mountain that threatens the survival of the UK as a first world economy.

You're being unfair to analysts because it has been proved time and again that they have 20/20 hindsight.

You'll be criticising pollsters next.
